Reymerston
The War Memorial in Reymerston St. Peter is made of white marble and sits on the righthand wall of the church. It contains the names of veterans who were injured and died in the First World War. The names of the fallen are listed here.
Herbert Brown
Herbert was born in 1892. He fought in the 9th Norfolks before being killed in action during the Battle of Arras in 1917.
Herbert Cary
Herbert was born in 1882 and served with the 2nd Essexs. He died in hospital in London and is buried in Worstead, Norfolk.
John Greenwood
John was born in 1888. He was reported missing, presumed killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915.
Frank Houchen
Frank was born in 1889. He joined the Navy but was later discharged with illness. He passed away in November 1919.
Albert R. Long
Albert was the eldest of six brothers. He suffered injuries on the battlefield and was transferred home where he died in 1916.
Percy A. Norton
Percy was born in 1897. He died in July 1917 at Passchendale. He is buried in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery.
Albert Saunders
Albert was born in May 1896. He enlisted in Norwich in 1914 but was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
Charles Cary
Charles was born in 1886 in Reymerston. He worked on the family farm and served in the Artillery. He was killed in India in 1918.
Sydney V. Grey
Sydney was born in 1997. He died from chronic bronchitis whilst serving in France.
Isaac W. Hawes
Isaac was born in 1892. He worked as a farm labourer before joining the Navy. He drowned at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
William Houchen
William is Frank’s older brother. He served with the 8th Norfolks and was killed at Passchendale in 1917.
Reginald T. Long
Reginald worked as a milkman before enlisting. He served in France but was discharged due to illness and died in 1919.
Reginald C. Norton
Reginald was Percy’s older brother. He died of wounds suffered at Guillemont and is commemorated at the Thiepval Memorial.
Ernest A. Smith
Ernest was born in Reymerston in 1882. He died in France in 1917 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
