Runhall
The memorial at All Saints Runhall commemorates nine fallen soldiers, all of whom can be found here. Albert Brown and Edward Hammond, although not listed on the memorial, were both born in Runhall and are considered here.
Thomas L. Allen
Tom was born in 1881 and married Elsie Adcock before enlisting. He passed away in 1917 and is buried in Runhall churchyard.
Clarke J. Brasnett
Clarke was born in Runhall and later emigrated to Canada. He served with the Canadian Army but sadly died in 1916.
Alfred R. Duffield
Alfred was born in 1885 and enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment. He fought in France but was killed in action in 1915.
Edward J. Hammond
Edward was born in 1897 and fought in the East Surrey Regiment. He was killed in action in April 1918 and buried in France.
Charles E. W. Hartt
Charles was born in 1898 in Carbrooke. He was killed in action at the Somme in 1916 aged only 17.
Archibald H. Brasnett
Archibald was born in 1888 and served in the Navy. In 1919, he died of food poisoning whilst serving on HMS Mallow.
Albert R. Brown
Albert was born in Runhall in 1887 before emigrating to the United States. He fought with the US Army before dying in 1918.
Charles J. Duffield
Charles, older brother of Alfred, was born in 1884. He was killed in action in 1918 and buried in Marne, France.
Robert H. Hammond
Robert was born in 1879 and came from a large family. He was killed in 1916 after being involved in an attack at Delville Wood.
Leonard A. Spinks
Leonard was born in 1891. He was killed after his ship, HMS Staunch, was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Gaza.
Henry Tills
Harry was born in 1892 and attended school in Hardingham. He was killed in action in 1915 and his body was never recovered. He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Belgium.
