He was born 16 July 1881 and baptised on 23 October 1881 at Runhall. He was the son of John Allen, husbandman, and Sarah Ann Allen.

He is recorded as attending Runhall with Coston School from 15 September 1884. The 1901 Census found Thomas Allen living at Dairy Farm, Felbrigg, Erpingham, Norfolk, with his uncle Robert Lincoln, retired farm bailiff, and his wife. In 1911 Thomas Allen was back living in Runhall with his parents.

He is recorded as marrying Elsie May Adcock in the third quarter of 1916. Elsie Adcock was the younger sister of Arthur Sidney Adcock and Bertie William Adcock. The Adcock family were living at Plough Lane, Hardingham in 1911.

Thomas Allen died aged 35 on 27 September 1917. He was invalided back to England after military service; Commonwealth War Graves Commission records indicate that he died of phthisis, in other words tuberculosis.

He is buried in Runhall churchyard and is commemorated on the War Memorial there.

An Elsie M Allen is recorded as marrying at Wisbech in the third quarter of 1919, her husband being named Martin.
