Wramplingham

A wooden plaque located in St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Wramplingham commemorates the fallen soldiers of World War One.

Anthony Y. Bailey

Anthony was born in 1897. He joined up aged 19 but was killed three months later at the Somme. He is commemorated at Theipval.

William R. Collings

William was born in 1885 and joined the army in 1904. He was called up again in August 1914 but was killed in action a month later.

Frederick W. Mitchell

Frederick was born in 1890 and was one of eight children. He landed in France in 1915 and was killed in action in 1916.

John S. Cavalier

John was born in 1882 and emigrated to Australia aged 25. He fought in the Australian Infantry before being killed in 1917 in France.

Joseph R. Howes

Joseph was born in 1889 and later married Alice Moore. He enlisted in 1915 but was killed at the Battle of Loos later that year.

John R. Oldfield

John was born in 1886. After school, he worked as a miller’s carter. He enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment but was killed in 1916.

Percival E. Thompson

Percival was born in 1895 and enlisted in 1914. He served at home until 1917 when he was posted abroad. He fought in the Middle East but died in October 1918 from pneumonia.
